September Tiki of the Month

The September Tiki of the Month does his fall yardwork

The September Tiki of the Month has lots of leaves to rake, since the fall season (or autumn, if you prefer) is upon us. And no matter how many leaves you rake, there will still be more to rake later on.

Actually, here in Tennessee, most everything is still green. A few trees are starting to lose their leaves, and I am sure that the other trees will start to turn in the next few weeks. But this seemed like an appropriate time for a leaf-raking tiki, because the next two months have some major holidays attached to them. Maybe when our leaves do fall, we can have this tiki come and rake our leaves with his happy smile.

Service with a Smile

Have you ever been to a grocery store where the checkout person seems grumpy and unhappy? I know you have, because that seems to be true of so many grocery checkers and other store checkers. There is even one store that I won’t name, whose employees all seem to be unhappy all the time. When we are out somewhere and see a grumpy person, we say, “He should get a job at that store we won’t name.” Except of course we say the name when it is just Laura and me. But you get the picture.

Service with a smile is a rarity these days. You may not be able to change that for everyone, but you can change it for yourself. Whatever you are doing, especially if you are doing it for someone else, or even just with someone else, do it with a smile. And as a bonus, throw in a few kind words, too. Sometimes you have to make a conscious choice to smile, similar to the thought in another recent art piece, but you can do it! I believe in you!

Grumpy people are so common now that smiling people make others take notice. And it usually makes them smile, too, because smiles can be contagious.

So share a smile with someone, and perhaps they will share one with someone else. Pretty soon, lots of people will be smiling.

Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. - Philippians 2:14-15

About the Artwork

This tiki of the month is a return to form, after the departure of style in last month’s tiki. Not that there was anything wrong with last month’s; in fact, I greatly liked him. But this is how I pictured this month’s tiki, so this is how I drew him. Spoiler alert: October’s will probably be in a similar style to this one, too, because I have already started on it.

Digital art created using the Procreate app and an Apple Pencil on iPad. And I was thankful for some leaf shape brushes, so that I did not have to draw each of those leaves individually!
