As you may remember, I did a series of pumpkins for Halloween this year. If you consider two a series. But actually, each of those two art pieces contained several pumpkins, so that makes it more like a series, right?

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to do something similar for Christmas, and Christmas trees were the obvious choice. Because who says that all Christmas trees have to look the same? And we like to have lots of Christmas trees in our house, so why not have lots around here, too? With the definition of “lots” in this case being as many as I have time to draw.

Christmas Decorating

It is always interesting to me how much discussion there is about Christmas decorating. How early is too early to put up your Christmas decorations? You will get lots of different answers if you ask that question. How long is too long to leave up your Christmas decorations? Once again, you will get all kinds of answers to that question, too.

What is the big deal? If someone wants to put up their decorations early, who am I to stand in their way? If someone else wants to leave their Christmas decorations up until February, what does it matter? If someone only wants to have their decorations up for just one day, that is perfectly fine, too.

We live in a society where most people think there has to be a definite answer for anything. You have to pose a certain way if you want your Instagram post to get lots of likes. You have to dress a certain way if you want to be considered fashionable. You have to have a certain body type if you want to be considered attractive. Of course, all of that is false. You can do things your own way, and life will be just fine.

Yes, there are many areas where there is a definite right and a definite wrong. No argument there. However, there are all kinds of other areas where it just does not matter. That is what we call “opinion”. Remember opinions? Everyone has them, and everyone’s opinions do not always agree. That does not mean that you should force your opinion on others. Just live your life and let them live theirs.

And enjoy your Christmas decorations for however long you want to have them up, if you even have them up at all.

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. - Romans 12:18

About the Artwork

I decided to go with a square format for this one instead of my usual wider formats. Even though it might have fit the Christmas tree shape better, I chose not to go with a portrait format. So square worked just fine. “It’s hip to be square,” in the words of one of the great poets of our time, Huey Lewis. But maybe that is just opinion, too.
