Steve Plays Cards
Cartoon Steve tries to play cards, except that he is frustrated because he does not know how to play the game.
That seems to be the story of my, er, Cartoon Steve’s life, not knowing how to do what everyone else is doing. He isn’t too mad, actually. He is just frustrated trying to figure out what to do next.
Playing the Game
This artwork was somewhat inspired by real life, sort of. Recently, we went on a church retreat. During some of the free time, several people were playing different card games. I watched a few minutes of a couple of them, but there were lots of rules that I did not know. Much more complex than “Go Fish”. So I did not participate in any of those card games. I just watched other people play for a bit.
Later on, a group was going to play a game called “Celebrity”. Again, I was not familiar with it, so I was just going to watch while Laura and the others played. But you have to have an even number of people, and wouldn’t you know that they had an odd number without me. So I was “forced” into playing, although I did not put up too much of a fight. And needless to say, I had fun, as did everyone else playing the game.
Sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone and try something new. And by we, I mean me. Because I am always hesitant to do it, but I rarely regret it in the end, and in fact I usually end up enjoying it.
As we always told Jaylin about new foods, you never know if you like it until you try it. And you just might be glad you did.
Sometimes, being uncomfortable can lead to some good things.
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. - Philippians 1:6
About the Artwork
I was having some frustration with this artwork, because I could not get the background to look like I wanted it to. Not that I had anything specific in mind at first, but rather just that I could not get happy with anything I tried. I was starting to look like Cartoon Steve. So I decided to go back and sort of re-use something I did like, which was the background in the State of Burnsland 2023 artwork, which also happens to be the background for the current header graphic above. While that original background was a curtain behind the podium, this one is just a similarly patterned wall.
I have to admit, the window to the left is rather small. You would think they would have built a bigger window to show off that wooded view outside.
And you may recognize the painting on the right as the Catch a Wave artwork from a few months ago. In real life, I do not actually have it framed and on a wall in real life, but I do like that one.
