Kaena Point Hawaii Poster

A travel poster for Kaena Point State Park on the island of Oahu in Hawaii

Continuing in the Posters series, here is a travel poster for Kaʻena Point State Park on the island of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi.

If this location looks a little familiar, the photo that the poster is based on was shared in a recent Adventures by Burnsland post. A few days after that post, I was looking for something to draw. I had loved the photo, so I decided to make a poster version of it, using the photo as a rough guide.

As if a place like this even needs a travel poster, because it is beautiful enough on its own. But looking at this makes me want to go again, just like looking at the photo did.

Birthday Blessings

Recently, I celebrated another birthday. Isn’t it interesting how those seem to come up every year?

On my birthday, and on the days surrounding it, I was continually blessed by friends and family with their birthday greetings by phone, text, email, and social media. If you ever forget how many friends you have, just wait until your birthday rolls around. If Facebook knows when your birthday is, it will be even better.

And to me, all of those blessings are a reminder to be a blessing to someone else, too. When someone has a birthday, or even when someone does not, it does not take long to send a text, make a phone call, post on social media, or even be old-fashioned and mail them a card. That little act that you do might just be a huge blessing to the other person. And lots of little blessings add up quickly, too.

Be a blessing to someone else, whether it is their birthday or not.

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! - Psalm 133:1 ESV

About the Artwork

In case you were wondering, I did not simply trace this from the photo. You can do that rather easily these days with digital art, but I chose not to go that route. I just used the photo as a guide.

I wanted this to have a screen-printed look, similar to what an actual poster would have. I did go through several options on the colors before ending up with what you see here. It is nice to be able to change colors easily on digital art such as this.

This was drawn using the Adobe Fresco app and an Apple pencil on my iPad.
