Palm Tree Island

Palm trees take over a small island under a lightly-clouded sky.

This is the third and final illustration in the Islands series. See the first one here and the second one here. Although this one does not necessarily look like the previous ones, it was definitely inspired by them. I have drawn a few islands and beach huts before, and I decided to draw this one based on the brown tones of the second beach hut illustration, which came from the first beach hut illustration. So while this illustration may not seem to be directly related to the other two, it still is related in my mind.

I have drawn several palm trees over the years, and probably there are not two that have looked the same. It is fun to explore and try new things.

Do Everything In Love

Everything we do should be wrapped up in love. That sounds easy, but is it easy to do?

Can you do the right thing for the wrong reason? Definitely! We can do good things because we are just going through the motions. Or we can do things to just check something off a list and “get credit” for having done our good deed. But are either of those the right reasons?

Instead, we should do everything out of love for each other. Not because it is just a habit, not because we are trying to make ourselves feel better. Instead, do things because you love people.

If you truly love, you will not just sit around and wait for someone to ask for your help. Instead, you will seek out ways to do things for others even before they ask. You will look for needs that you can fill because you love helping others.

If we act out of love instead of just trying to get something out of what we do, others will see our actions and realize our motivations and want to do the same. And God will be glorified.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. - 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

About the Artwork

As with the previous illustration, this one uses textures as well as brown tones. I like the slightly rough look of this one, although at times the smoother, non-textured look might be appropriate, too. But for my purposes of posting here, the textures fit just fine.
