A Thankful Tiki of the Month
A Thankful Tiki brings a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. He is the newest member of the Tiki of the Month Club from Steve’s Sketchbook, by the way.
This Tiki would love to be included in your Thanksgiving dinner plans. He is always looking for more friends to spend time with. And hopefully, that is a real turkey and not something made out of wood like he is. Of course, that raises the question of how he cooked it without setting himself on fire. But sometimes it is better just to be thankful and not ask too many questions.
Also, someone better hurry and get that turkey from him, because with a mouth the size of Massachusetts, it looks like he could eat that turkey in one bite! Maybe he will save some for the rest of us.
Family Time
You might notice a family resemblance, since this guy’s cousin was one of our first Tikis of the Month a few months back. They definitely have the same eyes. He’s a chip off the old tree, you might say. And how did this guy end up with hands? Good question!
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, and whether you have turkey and dressing, chicken casserole and stovetop stuffing, barbecue and beans, peanut butter and jelly (and anchovies), or whatever else, I hope that the most important part of your holiday is getting to spend time with family and friends. That to me is always the best part of the holiday. Getting to spend time with those people who are special to us.
Be thankful for the people that are in your life. I certainly am thankful for those in my life, and I know I would be lost without them.
Always rejoice, constantly pray, in everything give thanks. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
About the Artwork
Yes, it was intentional that this guy looked like that earlier tiki. He had been my favorite so far. So when I was thinking about this one, I wanted to keep them in the same family. There are some differences, but then I did not want them to look exactly the same.
I tried something different with the band near the base of this tiki. It has more of a tribal design to it rather than just geometric shapes, similar to what I did with some earlier artwork. It almost gets lost in the shadows here, but that is okay. I will probably use more of that in the future.
And those trees in the background are certainly strange. But palm trees did not exactly seem like they fit the fall theme. And all of our trees here have lost almost all of their leaves by now, so I decided to try to draw something like that. I do like how the texture on the tree trunks turned out, too.
Here is a look at the original sketch, with the more final outline version laid over it. As you can see, this tiki originally had some shapes that would somewhat resemble ears. But in the final design, I decided that those were not really necessary. So I left them out.
And as usual, this was created with the Procreate app on my iPad using an Apple Pencil.
